Lima, Ohio (WIMA) - Cardiologists from Lima Memorial and Saint Rita’s have saved the lives of three patients utilizing the LifeVest- a wearable defibrillator that patients wear under their clothes that monitors their heart rate around the clock.

The LifeVest is the world’s first wearable defibrillator- and unlike an implantable defibrillator- the LifeVest is worn outside the body.

It requires no bystander intervention and allows patients to leave the hospital knowing they are protected from sudden cardiac arrest.

The device alerts the patient prior to delivering a treatment shock- and thus allows a conscious patient to delay treatment.
