Last Thursday, Columbus, Ohio Mayor Andrew Ginther ordered the Christopher Columbus statue in front of City Hall to be removed and placed in storage. Similar action is taking place around the country including Boston, where the statue of Columbus was beheaded and eventually removed.
Some people want the Columbus name removed from the Ohio city, and have started a Change.org petition to rename it, "Flavortown." According to the petition the Columbus name is tarnished and, “The new name is twofold. For one, it honors Central Ohio’s proud heritage as a culinary crossroads and one of the nation’s largest test markets for the food industry. Secondly, cheflebrity Guy Fieri was born in Columbus, so naming the city in honor of him (he’s such a good dude, really) would be superior to its current nomenclature,” the petition states.
If passed, would all residents have to wear a pair of sunglasses on top of their frosted tips? If you would like to join the Flavortown revolution, click here at Change.org.
